Army’s top two leaders say strong ground force still essential

The Army’s top two leaders insisted Monday, Oct. 10, that whatever size the Army will be under the sharply reduced future defense budgets, it will be a balanced, full-spectrum force, ready and able to meet all the security challenges the nation will face.

AUSA trustee elected

Association of the United States Army officials announced Sept. 6 that the AUSA Council of Trustees elected Marillyn A. Hewson to replace Christopher E. Kubasik, who resigned as a trustee and member of the council.

Austin nominated as Army vice chief

Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III, serving as the commanding general, United States Forces – Iraq, since Sept. 1, 2010, has been nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as the Army’s 33rd vice chief of staff, succeeding Gen. Peter Chiarelli who has served in that position since August 2008.
