Terry Tuggle, former president of AUSA’s Central Texas – Fort Hood Chapter, will receive this year’s Maj. Gen. Anthony J. Drexel Biddle Medal for his outstanding contributions to the Association of the United States Army and his AUSA chapter.
As chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Fort Hood National Bank and First National Bank-Texas, he lent office space and facilities at Fort Hood National Bank to the post’s family readiness groups for fund-raising activities, which included car washes, bake sales and refreshment stands. These activities brought in more than $1,000 a month for family programs and projects.
Tuggle sponsored the Adopt A Fort Hood Unit program that supported more than 1,000 soldiers and their families. The Fort Hood National Bank, the First National Bank-Texas and the First Convenience Bank partnered with Fort Hood units in this program.
He also sponsored a scholarship program that provided more than $68,000 to students, he underwrote seven $1,000 scholarships and he initiated a new scholarship support standard by hosing a sit-down dinner for 300 scholars, family members and civic leaders.
"Whether in leadership, membership or friendship, Terry Tuggle has led the way and has contributed significantly to the advancement and mission of the Association of the U.S. Army," wrote Ron Taylor, Central Texas – Fort Hood Chapter president, in his nomination letter.
Tuggle will receive the Drexel Biddle Medal Oct. 25 during the opening ceremony of the Annual Meeting.
