The 2009 John W. Dixon Award for outstanding contributions to national defense by a member of the industrial community was presented to Robert G. Bohn, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Oshkosh Corporation.
Bob Bohn joined Oshkosh Corporation in May 1992 as Group Vice President for Manufacturing, holding several leadership positions in the company before being elected Chief Executive Officer in 1997 and Chairman in 2000.
Under Mr. Bohn’s leadership, Oshkosh Corporation has made substantial contributions to the defense industry by designing and producing a wide range of severe medium and heavy duty tactical wheeled vehicles and innovative autonomous and hybrid vehicle technologies including an independent suspension system that is used on many military tactical wheeled vehicles. Bohn has led the growth of Oshkosh Corporation into a global innovation leader offering a variety of vehicles and equipment.
Oshkosh Corporation and its employees are devoted champions of the men and women who serve in the Armed Forces. A model of support for the American Soldier, the company has a long-standing program in place to support its National Guard and Reserve employees who are called to active duty. The 2008 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award was given to Oshkosh Corporation for outstanding support of its employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
Additionally, Oshkosh has made major contributions to charitable organizations such as the Armed Forces Foundation, the USO, the III Corps and NDIA Scholarship Funds, and the Army Ten-Miler.
In recognition of his dedicated service to America’s military and as a respected and admired member of the defense-industry community, the Association of the United States Army proudly presented the John W. Dixon Award to Robert G. Bohn on the 7th day of October, 2009.
