One reason for the belief that some soldiers are being forced to deploy many more times than others is that they are not owning up to fact they actually volunteered, Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Talley, commander of the Army Reserve, told listeners Monday Oct. 21 at the 2013 Annual Meeting and Exposition of the Association of the United States Army.
He said wives have complained to him that their husbands have had to deploy several times and someone else they know hasn’t done any.
Talley said he tells these spouses, “He did not have to do those deployments. He volunteered and made it seem he had no choice.”
“When he learns of such situations,” Talley added, “I give the soldier a chance to confess
... I have them call their spouse right in front of me and then I have them call their employer.”
