The commander of U.S. Army Europe recalled for the Association of the United States Army’s volunteer leaders advice the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff gave him before speaking to more than 200 present and former chapter presidents.  “This is probably the most important event at AUSA.  It sets the tone for the whole meeting.”

Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, speaking Oct. 9 before the formal opening of the AUSA’s Annual Meeting and Exposition, also reminded the attendees that when Gen. Martin Dempsey spoke to them two years ago that “he asked for your help” before introducing his plans to recapture the essence of Army professionalism.
