TRICARE Enrollment Fees

                                                                                              May 3, 2011

On behalf of the 100,000 members of the Association of the United States Army, I write to urge you during the upcoming consideration of FY 2012 Defense Authorization legislation to support the Personnel subcommittee mark that would bar increases to TRICARE enrollment fees for one year.

The military retirement/healthcare package is the primary offset to the adverse service conditions inherent in a career in uniform.   The decades of service and sacrifice constitute a very large, pre-paid premium for career service members’ healthcare in retirement, over and above what they pay in cash.  As you consider this year’s defense authorization legislation, I urge you to remember that our military retirees and their families – far less than one percent of our nation’s population – have rendered enormous service to our nation and deserve every benefit that they have.  Keep their healthcare costs low.

                                                                                             Sincerely,

                                                                                             GORDON R. SULLIVAN
