Fort Riley - Central Kansas Chapter (Junction City, KS)

November 2008 - The Fort Riley-Central Kansas Chapter sponsored 30 wounded warriors from the First Infantry Division WTB to attend a Kansas City Chiefs NFL football game. Tickets were valued at $3,000 and a $200 cash grant was provided for food. The soldiers reported having a great day.

April 2008 - The Fort Riley/Central Kansas Chapter has collected approximately $116,00 in donations for wounded soldiers. Since last August, $15,250 has gone directly into the hands of these soldiers. Soldiers returning to CONUS often come with nothing more than what they received in the medical channels. When they get to Walter Reed, Brooks Army Medical Center, or the Fort Riley Wounded Transition Battalion, they may have nothing more than their personal toiletries. Each of these soldiers receive a $250 stipend from the chapter to assist in whatever need they have. For some it may be purchasing some civilian clothing. For others it might be to help cover the cost of getting their family here or making that car payment that wasn't made because they were in transit.

For the more severely wounded soldiers, i.e., those requiring hospitalization, the chapter has been providing terry cloth robes. These robes are white with a 1st ID patch over the left breast and the AUSA logo over the right breast. In places like Walter Reed and Brooks, these robes have been a great moral builder. As they are traversing the halls on the way to rehab appointments, etc. they not only help to identify the soldier as a Big Red One soldier. This build relationships with other Fort Riley soldiers who are hospitalized as well. Another thing the robes do is they remind the soldier that AUSA cares about him/her. To date, 75 robes have been presented.

January 2006 - Mr. Jon McGraw, owner of the Bubble Car Wash, donated all proceeds for January 11, 2006, to the Fort Riley-Central Kansas Chapter of AUSA. The funds are to be used for the Wounded Soldier Fund,a project that has been underway by the Chapter for several years to assist military personnel and their families. A total of $1800 was raised. Chapter officers who attended the function handed out more than 150 membership applications in an effort to increase the Chapter's Individual Membership in AUSA. The Chapter wishes to thank Mr. McGraw and his personnel for their generous contribution to this project and to AUSA.

October 2004 - The Fort Riley-Central Kansas Chapter dedicated its memorial, "War on Terror." The memorial, in the shape of the World Trade Center Towers and the Pentagon, bears the names of all soldiers from Ft. Riley who have lost their lives fighting the war. Each year on September 11 the memorial will be updated with the names of soldiers lost during the previous year. Currently the memorial contains 45 names. The funds for the memorial were donated by AUSA members and friends. Approximately 500 civilian & military personnel attended the dedication ceremony, including several family members who have lost loved ones in the war.

The Chapter met with CSM Canuella and five other CSM at Fort Riley concerning a project with VFW and Kraft Foods to receive 10 pallets of food stuffs for the families of deployed Soldiers stationed here at Fort Riley. We will begin receiving shipments sometime in March 2004. NCO's will receive, process and distribute the food stuffs
