Alamo Chapter (San Antonio, TX)

December 2008 - On 1 December the new 12,000 square foot Support Center was opened with 3,000 Wounded Warriors, volunteers and supporters present to see the beautiful $5 million facility.  Built entirely with donations from local builders, veterans groups and concerned citizens it was completed only 24 months after the idea was conceived to replace the original 1,200 square foot facility opened in 2003 in a small conference room of the Powless guest House.  The new facility adjacent to BAMC and the Intrepid Rehabilitation Center will serve as a meeting place for soldiers and their families when they are not in treatment or at their sleeping quarters.  Newsman Bob Woodward, himself badly wounded in Iraq, was the guest speaker along with Post Commander MG Czerw and Judith Markelz, the official MOM of the Wounded Warriors at Fort Sam Houston.  The Alamo Chapter donated $2,000 to this construction program.  Many chapter Corporate and Board members were present for the ceremony.

October 2008:  One day hunting/fishing trip for four Wounded Warriors on the Barrett Ranch. Soldiers were taken bass fishing for about three hours, fed a wonderful tenderloin lunch and then allowed to kill a buck. Deer meat was processed and head mounted at no charge to hunters.

May 2008 - The Alamo Chapter purchased a table at the dance which was filled with invited members of the Warrior Transition Battalion and Wounded Warriors and the wives or dates. Over fifty soldiers and spouses attended the dance with the band and many old veterans wearing their WWII uniforms.

The Alamo Chapter purchased 50 parade tickets at a cost of $450 that were distributed to Wounded Warriors and their families. The Fiesta parades are very popular here in San Antonio, and these tickets were for seats in an ideal location.
