December 2009 - Chapter presented 10 tickets to see the Kansas City Chiefs game to soldiers from Ft Leavenworth Warrior Transition Unit. Tickets valued at $900 dollars.
November 2009 - Arranged tickets for Wounded Warrior to attend NASCAR Race; Value $500; Col Mike Neer coordinated and delivered 4 tickets to the NASCAR race to be run on September 28, 2008. Tickets were request by a wounded warrior transition out of Army. He always wanted to take his family to a NASCAR race. Included reserved parking and valued at about $500. Tickets for a Fort Riley WTU Soldier.
Col Mike Neer arranged tickets for 46 Wounded Warrior and escorts to attend NFL Football game, KC vs Tampa Bay, Nov 2, 2008. 30 tickets to 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley and 16 Tickets to WTU, Fort Leavenworth, KS. Cost $4500.
September 2009 - Operation Soldier Assist Project 2008 was on this day 4 October 2008. The event took place at the home of SSG Sean Resare in Leavenworth, KS who was wounded by an IED explosion in February of 2006 while he served in Iraq with his National Guard Unit. Two other soldiers in his vehicle were killed and one other soldier was wounded in addition to SSG Resare. Today the Associations of GKC AUSA and NARI (The National Association of the Remodeling Industry) partnered to make major home repairs to SSG Resare's home.
This festive event brought together the Leavenworth and Kansas City community with donations of time, supplies, labor, food, tents, tables, chairs, & more. The projects that were accomplished included: painting the exterior of the home, creating new front porch railings, fix front door, carpet office, tile entry from garage to house, build a new closet in son's room, all new window blinds in living room, build attic access stairwell and attic flooring. Also part of the project was to plant two large oak trees in the front yard to honor the two soldiers who were killed in the IED explosion, give out small oak tree saplings to all those who came to the site to volunteer or make a donation to a college fund being started for the daughter of one of the soldiers that died.
Breakfast was served on site with donations by the Women of the Post Chapel organized by Diana Pitts, Gold Star Mom. Lunch was served on site provided by the VFW Post #56. Hot dogs & Pork were grilled on site plus all the trimmings. Other snacks, drinks, water on site was provided by GKC Corp. Members Grantham U, Baker U, and Hollis & Miller Architects. Tables & chairs were donated by the CGSC. Tents were donated by the Kansas National Guard. At least 60 volunteers were on site this day to make all these projects happen. Media coverage included The Leavenworth Times, The Kansas City Star and TV Fox 4 News.
August 2008 - Wounded Warriors from the WTU out of Ft. Leavenworth were honored at the Military Appreciation Day at the KC Royals Baseball game. The tickets for these warriors were provided by the Royals. Diane Boeger worked with the FRG Leader Amanda Cherry-Haas and the Marketing Director of the Royals, Deby Teter to secure a place for these brave heroes at the game.
May 2008 - Diane Boeger and Mike Neer presented wounded warrior SGT George Bellis and his wife Tricia a check for $592.17 on Friday, April 18, 2008. This check represents the last of the $10,000.00 that was donated to the Bellis family last September during Operation Soldier Assist. The money was given to the Bellis family by Corporate Member Grantham University and GX Magazine to help pay for additional home improvement projects to the Bellis home after the initial remodel project was completed on the weekend of September 15 & 16, 2007. With the $10,000.00 grant money the Bellis family installed all new carpet throughout their home, bought dining room furniture, bedroom furniture & remodeled the master bathroom.
