AUSA Newell Rubbermaid Volunteer Family of the Year Award

Nominations Sought for 2008 AUSA Newell Rubbermaid Volunteer Family of the Year

The Association of the United States Army Family Programs Directorate is seeking nominations for the 2008 AUSA Newell Rubbermaid Volunteer Family of the Year Award. The Award recognizes an exceptional Army family whose dedicated volunteer service significantly contributes to improving Army well-being and the well-being of the local community.

The winning family will receive a trip to Washington D.C. for the Annual Meeting, a cash prize and a gift basket courtesy of Rubbermaid, AUSA and GEICO. Two runner-up families will also be selected and each will receive a savings bond and gift basket. All nominated families will receive an Association coin and certificate.

Those eligible for the award include Active Duty, Reserve Component, National Guard, Retiree and Army civilian families.

Nominations for the 2008 AUSA Newell Rubbermaid Volunteer Family of the Year Award may be submitted only through AUSA chapters. However, we encourage family readiness coordinators, volunteer coordinators and anyone else that is aware of a deserving family to contact their local AUSA chapter leaders with information. To locate your nearest chapter please visit the AUSA Regional Activities page at http://www.ausa.org/chapters. Each chapter may submit up to three families for consideration and the chapter is responsible for verifying each nomination.

Each nomination should consist of a completed nomination form with a point of contact, address and telephone number for the nominating chapter and a 600-800 word narrative describing the nominated family’s volunteerism, their overall impact on the community and any awards received.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2008 AWARD MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE FAMILY PROGRAMS DIRECTORATE NO LATER THAN JUNE 13, 2008.

2004 AUSA Rubbermaid-Irwin Family of the Year
The Wiles Family believes that it is a privilege to be an Army family and therefore it is their responsibility to give back to the community in which they live. Command Sergeant Major and Mrs. Brian Wiles and their sons, Alexander and Phillip are outstanding examples of what Army families are all about.

2003 AUSA Rubbermaid Family of the Year
The 2003 AUSA Rubbermaid Volunteer Family of the Year Awardees, Staff Sgt. Michael McClaran, his wife Sheila and daughter Kimberly are an outstanding example of the many Army families who are dedicated to improving the lives of their fellow military families and their communities through volunteer service.

2002 AUSA, Rubbermaid Salute Knox Family
The first recipients of the AUSA Rubbermaid Volunteer Family of the Year Award received their award at the opening ceremony of the 2002 Annual Meeting. Sergeant First Class and Mrs. Lynn Dedeaux, along with their two daughters Sydney and Jade, were a truly inspiring example of the volunteer spirit celebrated through this award.
