Army Ten-Miler officials announced June 9 that an additional 500 race entries will be offered to U.S. Armed Forces service members through a special, online lottery from June 14 to 25.
This year it took just 35 hours for the Ten-Miler to fill its 30,000 runner field -- an opening day all-time record, shattering last year's registration sign up of six days.
The race’s lottery is open to all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and winners will be randomly selected on June 28. The military lottery will be conducted online at www.armytenmiler.com.
To register for the lottery, military participants must have a military e-mail address with a .mil extension.
The registration fee of $55 (plus processing fee) is charged only to winners of the special military lottery.
Registrants will be required to enter a valid credit card, but the card will not be charged unless the registrant is selected as a winner.
All registrants will receive an e-mail notifying them if they were selected and a searchable list will be posted on the Army Ten-Miler Web site confirmation page.
All lottery winners are final – no refunds or reimbursements will be granted. If unable to run, winners can transfer their entry until Sept. 3.
Lottery winners can still enter and become a member of an existing team for the team competition until Sept. 10.
“The Army Ten-Miler started the military lottery because many personnel don’t know where they will be in October when registration opens in April,” Jim Vandak, the race director, said. “The race sells out faster each year and many service members get left out especially those deployed overseas. Offering the military the extra opportunity to register is our small way to show appreciation for their allegiance and service to our country,” Vandak added.
The 26th Annual Army Ten-Miler will take place on Sunday, Oct. 24 in Washington, the day before the opening of the Association of the United States Army’s Annual Meeting and Exposition. See www.ausa.org
