2011 - Col. William J. Beiswenger, Jr. 

 

The Major General Anthony J. Drexel Biddle Medal was awarded to Colonel William J. Beiswenger, Jr. for his outstanding contributions to the Association of the United States Army and its Third Region.

Colonel Beiswenger was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1979 and upon graduating the Officer Basic Course was assigned to the 53rd Infantry Brigade, Florida National Guard, where he has served in a variety of leadership roles.

In 2005 Colonel Beiswenger received a Master’s Degree from the Army War College and was appointed to serve as the Director of Operations for the Joint Directorate of Military Support, Florida National Guard Joint Force Headquarters, where he is responsible for Florida National Guard intelligence, military operations and many community outreach initiatives.

For his exemplary military service, Colonel Beiswenger has received the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Florida Distinguished Service Medal and Florida Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters.

Colonel Beiswenger joined AUSA in 1993 and currently maintains involvement with all six Florida Chapters. He has also served as Third Region’s treasurer, executive vice president and president. During the final year of his term as president of Third Region, his region included four of the five best chapters.

Recently, Colonel Beiswenger served as a member of the Reserve Corps Advisory Committee of the AUSA Advisory Board of Directors and was part of the Membership Subcommittee which developed recommendations for increasing AUSA’s Reserve Corps membership.

Colonel Beiswenger has previously been recognized for his work with AUSA as recipient of a National Citation for Exceptional Service and of nine consecutive years of AUSA Third Region Outstanding Service Awards. No matter the task, no matter the burden, he has always shown a willingness to do what needs to be done to further the goals of the Association and support the Soldiers it serves.

In recognition of his tireless support for AUSA and his many contributions to its mission, the Association of the United States Army proudly presented the Major General Anthony J. Drexel Biddle Medal to Colonel William J. Beiswenger, Jr. on the tenth day of October, two thousand eleven.
