Earlier this week, the Senate Armed Services Committee held a hearing on the nomination of Gen. Mark A. Milley to be the next Chief of Staff of the Army. The hearing focused largely on Milley's view of threats facing the United States and the Army's role in combating those threats, but it also touched on issues of importance to military families.Milley is intent on ensuring that the Army remains committed to producing ready and resilient soldiers and families. He spoke about his own family and how they have served as his source of personal strength. He also spoke of the importance of the Soldier for Life-Transition Assistance Program, which requires leadership involvement during a soldier's transition process.If confirmed, he said, he will “apply resources to programs and services that have the greatest impact on sustaining soldier and family resilience and thereby Army readiness.” He mentioned the Exceptional Family Member Program, Child Development Centers and the Financial Readiness Program as examples of how the Army enables soldier and family readiness.
